Medical Education Department
The Medical Education department is responsible for administrative functions for our residents, medical students, physician assistants, fellows, and observers. Virtua is committed to providing and maintaining a warm, welcoming, healing environment while promoting personalized service and enhanced healing.
Our education programs are here to help develop and train leaders in medicine. The goal is to produce skilled practitioners who can compete in the demanding health care field. Residents and fellows will receive a well-balanced knowledge base upon which to build. Virtua's residency programs (Obstetrics and Gynecology, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Pharmacy, and Podiatry) are dedicated to providing rewarding experiences.
Family Medicine Residency - Voorhees
Our residency program provides continual and comprehensive care to patients and families through Virtua's services that are devoted to women's health, pediatrics, cancer, cardiology, and orthopedics.
General Surgery Residency
Virtua's Surgical Residency Program trains surgeons in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients who suffer from illness across the broad spectrum of surgery.
Internal Medicine Residency
Virtua's Internal Medicine Residency program trains internists in the promotion of health, prevention of disease, and the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of a broad range of illnesses.
Ob/Gyn Residency
Our Ob/GYN residency program offers extensive experience in all aspects of hospital care, including obstetrics, gynecology, maternal-fetal medicine, female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, and emergency medicine.
Pharmacy Residency Program
Upon completion of the Virtua Pharmacy Residency Program graduates will be qualified for positions including PGY-2 resident, clinical pharmacist, and inpatient pharmacist.
Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency with Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery
Our goal is to produce skilled practitioners of podiatric medicine and surgery who can compete in today's marketplace.
More Information About The Virtua Medical Education Programs
- Complete application
- Affiliation agreement with organization (must be current; only for students)
- Copy of malpractice insurance
- Immunization record – proof of PPD & Flu Shot (within the past year), Hepatitis B Immunization, and Rubella Titers as per OSHA Guidelines
- COVID vaccine and booster
- Government photo identification (state, driver's license or passport)
- Student photo for badge
- Proof of criminal background check
- BLS or ACLS certificate
- PALS certificate (individuals working with children)
- Students and Observers must sign an online confidentiality agreement (Issued by IT once above documents are submitted and approved).
All rotation requests are required to provide a list of names and rotation dates at least one month prior to the start of the rotation. All rotations should be confirmed prior to completing the on-boarding application. Annual lists are preferred. ME Office must be notified immediately should a schedule change.
The Director of Medical Education must approve new rotations.
Observerships are only offered for individuals interested in pursuing a career in medicine as a PA, MD or DO. All applicants must make arrangements with a physician prior to completing the application. Unfortunately the ME office does not retain a list of physicians who are able to accommodate observers.
Should a student/resident/physician assistant/fellow not have the required paperwork submitted 30 days prior to their start date they may not be allowed to start their rotation.
