At Virtua, we’ll connect you to an oncology nurse navigator your first visit. And they’ll support you from diagnosis through survivorship.

You also have access to resources like counseling, pain management, and sexual wellness services. This holistic approach led to our accreditation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

Your provider may recommend a more precise form of radiation therapy called proton therapy to treat certain types of cancer. We use this advanced treatment for tumors located near highly sensitive areas or if surgery cannot completely remove a tumor. The Penn Medicine | Virtua Health Cancer Program offers South Jersey’s only proton therapy center.

At Virtua, you’ll have access to support services to help you through the challenges of cancer treatment. You can connect with a social worker or join a support group. You can get help managing fatigue or get wigs and scarves to cope with hair loss. You also have access to genetic testing, lymphedema therapy and nutritional counseling.

Cancer clinical trials
We’re constantly working to improve treatments through clinical trials. When you participate in a trial, you may have access to a promising new therapy before it’s widely available. We lead studies on immunotherapy drugs that attack the cancer cells in your body. And we investigate medications that target specific genetic mutations associated with a number of cancers.

Free cancer screenings
A lack of health insurance shouldn’t prevent you from getting tests that find cancer early — when it’s easiest to treat. That’s why Virtua offers free cancer screenings to Burlington and Camden County residents who meet certain age and income requirements. We hold breast, cervical, prostate, and colorectal cancer screening events at least once a month in Cherry Hill and Burlington. Learn more about free cancer screenings here.
