Our Approach to Sleep Medicine
There are few things more satisfying than a good night's sleep. Beyond feeling rested and recharged, good sleep can enhance brain performance, boost your mood, and improve your quality of life.
Millions of Americans suffer from sleep disorders, many of which go undiagnosed. In addition to making you feel tired, sleep disorders have been found to play a role in high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, cognitive impairment, and more.
If you're not enjoying a quality night's sleep, our team is here to help. Our board-certified sleep medicine experts can evaluate, diagnose, and treat over 100 sleep disorders. By connecting with our team, you can:
- Put these issues to sleep: Our team will guide you through the entire evaluation process to understand what's disrupting your sleep. From there, we'll develop a personalized treatment plan that fits your lifestyle.
- Make yourself at home: Part of your treatment might include an overnight sleep study at one of our comfortable, state-of-the-art sleep centers. We designed these facilities to deliver all the comforts of home, including private amenities such as kitchens, bathrooms, showers, and televisions.
- Coordinated care: Based on your conditions, you'll also gain access to our entire team of specialists. Pulmonologists, cardiologists, and neurologists all collaborate with our sleep medicine specialists to provide the care you need.

We assembled a team of board-certified sleep medicine experts devoted to one goal: helping you get the best sleep possible.
Sleep Medicine Tests and Treatments
At Virtua, we offer both on-site and at-home sleep studies designed to uncover your sleep disorders. Here's a quick breakdown of what you can expect from each study:
On-site sleep study
An on-site sleep study is the definitive method for diagnosing a sleep disorder. During this evaluation, you'll spend the night at one of our state-of-the-art sleep centers – which delivers a boutique hotel atmosphere.
Our goal is to make your experience as comfortable as possible. Here, you'll enjoy a private room that features all the comforts of home, including amenities such as a kitchen, bathroom, shower, and television.
Before you fall asleep, you'll be connected to a high-tech monitoring system that measures heart rate, brain waves, breathing, eye, and muscle movements. This gives us the best picture of what's going on and allows our team to accurately diagnose your sleep disorders.
At-home sleep study
During an at-home sleep study, we'll provide portable equipment that allows us to monitor your sleep remotely. We typically utilize this approach to confirm a sleep apnea diagnosis.
While this evaluation method is more convenient, there are some factors to consider. For example, if a monitoring line falls off during an on-site study, our specialists can reattach it instantly. If this happens while you're at home, we might need to conduct additional studies.
Plus, home sleep studies are limited to respiratory sleep disorders. Whereas, on-site sleep studies can detect the full range of sleep disorders.
