Our Approach to Mental and Behavioral Health

Your mental health affects the way you think, feel, and interact with others. That includes how you function in your everyday life, including your ability to get out of bed, take a shower, go to work, or engage with family and friends.

With all of life’s challenges, anyone can experience mental health issues, regardless of age, race, gender, or physical health.

Virtua offers a range of mental and behavioral health services to help you get a proper diagnosis and treatment. We want to connect you to the care and services you need so you can feel better in your everyday life.

We're here to help

Virtua’s mental health team is made up of trained, compassionate professionals who offer care for adults, adolescents, and children in our hospitals, primary care provider offices, and other health and wellness locations. These professionals include:

• Psychiatrists, who focus on diagnosing mental illness and prescribing the appropriate medication to treat it
• Psychologists, who provide diagnosis, psychological and behavioral assessments, and psychotherapy (talk therapy)
• Psychiatric nurse practitioners, advanced nurse practitioners trained in psychiatry and psychotherapy, who focus on diagnosing mental illness, prescribing the appropriate medication to treat it, and psychotherapy
• Clinical social workers, licensed counselors of social work, who provide psychotherapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy
• Counselors/therapists, who teach a range of skills for managing anxiety, depression, and other forms of mental illness and provide individual and group talk therapy, marital counseling, and family therapy

Our team works with your primary care provider and other mental health professionals to help you connect to the care you need.

Our Mental and Behavioral Health Programs

• Outpatient mental health treatment for Virtua Primary Care patients, including medication management, psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, marriage counseling, and family therapy
• Pediatric behavioral health – CASTLE program, including outpatient therapy, intensive outpatient therapy, partial hospitalization, and a therapeutic nursery for kids ages 3 to 4
• Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)
• Drug and alcohol addiction treatment
• Postpartum depression and anxiety treatment 

Virtua Mental and Behavioral Health Locations

We offer inpatient psychiatric care at Virtua Mount Holly and Virtua Willingboro hospitals, and electroconvulsive therapy at Virtua Mount Holly Hospital.

You can access 24/7 emergency psychiatric care in the emergency rooms at all Virtua hospitals.
