Mobile Grocery Store
In fall 2020, Virtua Health announced the latest component of its food access initiatives: the Eat Well Mobile Grocery Store. This year-round store-on-wheels is the newest mobile addition to Virtua’s portfolio of programs that position food as a form of medicine.
The 40-foot mobile store offers an inventory of goods ranging from fresh produce to proteins, shelf-stable and household items, dairy and more – all procured based on community member input – an important process to ensure that dietary needs and cultural preferences are met with the consideration they deserve. With everything available at below-market prices, community members in Camden and Burlington counties are invited to shop at any of the store’s weekly stops, which are a product of thoughtful partnerships with community-minded organizations, property owners, public officials, and resident champions who believe in Virtua’s mission.
Virtua offers other mobile services to address the health needs of South Jersey residents. In addition to its sister program, the Eat Well Mobile Farmers Market, Virtua operates a Pediatric Mobile Services Program for children in communities that frequently experience barriers to care and mobile cancer screenings for people who are underinsured or without health insurance.
The Eat Well Mobile Grocery Store is “fueled” by the generous support of philanthropic donors. For more information on how to support Virtua’s philanthropic initiatives, visit GiveToVirtua.org.
COVID-19 Safety Information
We are excited to welcome visitors to our Mobile Grocery Store! Our team has worked with Virtua Health leadership to ensure that our community has safe access to fresh, healthy foods and household goods. What does this mean for you? As of March 1, 2022:
- Masks are no longer required for all visitors, but we do have extras available if you would like one.
- For your safety, we are only allowing a limited number of customers onboard at a time. Please follow signage and team member instructions to form a line at the bus. When it is your turn, you will step aboard and shop using a sanitized plastic hand-basket.
- Once you reach the end of the aisle and finish shopping, one staff member will conduct check-out, collect payment, and bag your items. You will then exit the bus.
As always, our friendly team members are happy to assist you. We look forward to your feedback as we navigate changing conditions together. Please contact us via our social media (links below on this page) should you have any questions.
Healthy eating is the foundation to a healthy life.
